Artists-at-risk programs of the foundation

Artists and writers in many countries find themselves endangered and threatened in their work. Spaces for arts and culture are shrinking – not only in war zones but also in countries where governments are acting in an increasingly authoritarian manner. With its Artists at Risk programs, the Allianz Kulturstiftung supports artists and writers who were forced to leave their countries and are now continuing their work from here.

In cooperation with the Berlin Senate’s program Weltoffenes Berlin, the foundation provides fellowship grants to artists who have recently arrived in Germany. Since 2017, the fellowship program Torschreiber am Pariser Platz addresses writers in exile and is funded jointly with the Stiftung Brandenburger Tor.

The programs’ aim is to create new resonance spaces for the fellows’ artistic work and to make their voices heard across language barriers.
