The Rebuilding the Broken (RtB) project is a two-week educational scheme that provides young people with quality education in the field of cultural heritage and at the same time uses it to build relations among young professionals in Europe. It is being conducted by the NGO Cultural Heritage Without Borders Albania (CHwBA). The project aspires to create conditions for reconciliation and sustainable social change as prerequisites for peace and democracy. The rationale behind RtB is to use cultural heritage as a stimulus for debate and for initiating intercultural dialogue that can lead to a better integration of young professional in Europe.

Over the course of two weeks, participants (students and young professionals aged 18- 32 from all over the Balkans and EU countries) will meet in three locations, namely Gjirokastra in southern Albania (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Gjakova in Kosovo and Rogljevo in Serbia. They will follow a rigorous schedule that combines theory, through lectures and presentations, with hands-on work such as interpretation, conservation of artefacts and personal development projects in the field of arts and crafts.

Cultural Heritage without Borders is an independent non-governmental organisation dedicated to rescuing and preserving cultural heritage affected by conflict, neglect or human and natural disaster. The Albania office was opened in 2009. In 2014, it won the Europa Nostra Award of the EU in the category of “Education, Training and Awareness-Raising” for its educational programs.
