Tino Sehgal (* 1976 in London) is a German-British artist whose works move fluently between the boundaries of the visual and performing arts. He studied choreography and economics in Berlin and at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Together with Thomas Scheibitz, he shaped the German pavillon at the 51th Biennale in Venice in 2005. At the DOCUMENTA 2012 in Kassel he performed at the Bode-Saal of the Grand City-Hotels. He received the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 55th Venice Biennale. In 2015 in Berlin, his home of choice, a retrospective of his work took place at the Martin-Gropius-Bau. For his performances Tino Sehgal uses interpreters who step into direct contact with the visitors of the respective piece by means of movement, spoken word or song.
